Wildlife Seen At Church Property Fence
February 5, 2001 - Recently, a pair of coyotes (yes, coyotes) was spotted in the church meadow behind the houses on the south side of Oakwood Trail. City and county officials referred us to the Indiana Wildlife Action Hotline at 1-800-893-4116. However, the folks at the IWAH said they could not do anything unless the coyotes get into a backyard or some trash or threaten someone.

The IWAH staff also said that coyotes do not usually attack people without provocation, however they do go after small animals and birds. Apparently, the cold weather has caused the coyotes to seek food in places they do not normally inhabit. The IWAH did provide a few common sense tips regarding the presence of these coyotes in our neighborhood.

  1. Keep your trash tightly covered.
  2. Don't feed your pets outside.
  3. Don't feed the birds for the next few days.
  4. Closely supervise your children and pets when they are outside.
If you spot these coyotes inside your yard or disturbing your trash or threatening anyone in the neighborhood, please call the Indiana Wildlife Action Hotline at 1-800-893-4116.
