Land Sale Public Hearing Rescheduled Again

June 10, 2001 - The latest delay in bringing the issue of Davis Homes purchasing a majority of the church property at 6601 Grandview Ave. before the City-County
Commission is good news for the residents of Delaware Trails and Westlane Terrace.
The main reason for the delay is because the Washington Township Fire Chief has expressed a desire to add a second Grandview Ave. entrance to the development as a means of properly ensuring emergency access to the new sub-division. This would preclude the need for emergency vehicle access at the south end of Munsee Lane.
This is the original position that the Delaware Trails negotiating committee proposed to Davis Homes early in the negotiations, but Davis initially felt the cost was prohibitive because they would need to build a bridge across Crooked Creek to create an entrance on the south side of the church.
As a result of the astute bargaining by the DT committee, the most recent proposal has about 18 less proposed homes than the original. By allowing Davis Homes to re-include those 18 proposed homes back into their next proposal, to cover the cost of building the bridge and buying a little more land from the church for the new entrance, Delaware Trails will
achieve its primary goal, as agreed upon by the DTCA general membership at its March 2001 meeting, of keeping additional vehicular traffic out of our neighborhood. Way to go team!
Now, if the city feels it wants to connect neighborhoods, we can propose a pedestrian only connection as a sound solution to satisfying their desire without the issue if safety being a factor in the decision-making process.
