DTCA General Membership
Meeting is Tuesday,
September 11 at 7:00 p.m.
Election To Determine New Leadership

August 29, 2001 - The next DTCA general membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the JCC. The election at this meeting, of four new board directors, marks the end of the tenure for the current DTCA directors who received the most votes in the election of 1999 – the first election held in many years.
Departing from the board will be Jeff Pitts, President; Ken Zweigel, Vice President; Ann Bevilacqua, Communications Director; and Nancy Pennington, Hospitality Director.
Under the leadership of Jeff Pitts during the past two years, the Delaware Trails Civic Association has blossomed into a vital and vibrant organization that has
achieved many accomplishments despite lacking the momentum of a previously active board or membership. Fortunately, Mike Mintz and Dick Byers did an admirable and fiscally prudent job holding down the fort – by themselves – for many years as the association lay virtually dormant, but it's coffers slowly grew.
The contributions of all four departing directors comprise a long list of valuable projects, all of which are underscored by the fact that everything
achieved during their two years in office resulted in an even more robust DTCA bank account than they
inherited from their predecessors.
The theme of most projects led by Pennington, Bevilacqua and Zweigel was communications. Nancy, with assistance from her hospitality committee, warmly sent an appreciatively received message of welcome (with a nice basket of goodies,) condolences or congratulations to many households in the neighborhood. Her efforts went a long way toward bringing us closer together.
As Communications Director, Ann spent countless hours heading desktop publishing and printing operations for the new annual DTCA Resident Directory and quarterly newsletters, both of which
dramatically increased the level of neighborhood awareness and contact in Delaware Trails. She also developed and hosted the first DTCA Web site (and her daughter Tasha created the DTCA logo.) Her talents (and basement publishing plant) have built a solid communications foundation for the neigborhood.
Ken Zweigel worked closely with Ann to write, create sponsor advertisements, assemble and distribute the directory and newsletters. He also devoted countless hours (and several vacation days) selling DTCA sponsorship packages to local merchants and neighborhood residents in business for themselves – 36 packages in two years for a net revenue of approximately $2000 after expenses. The sponsorship contributions covered all of the printing and mailing costs for the directories and newsletter, as well as the hosting fees for the current, second-generation DTCA Web site, which Ken also developed and administers.
The hours spent by Jeff Pitts working on behalf of his Delaware Trails neighbors became too many to count long ago. With every task he undertook and project he led – from the mounted sub-division maps he brought to the first Crime Watch committee meeting (held at his house before being elected to the board) to the endless meetings, discussions, research, document development and phone calls associated with the pending Davis Homes development – Jeff brought a sense of professionalism, wisdom, thoroughness, compassion and compromise.
Though much remains to be done, the positive effects of the long-term initiatives and neighborhood
traditions (e.g., Fourth of July Picnic) begun under the stewardship of these four directors will be felt for a long time.
