The 3rd Annual DTCA July
4th Picnic Keeps the Tradition Alive and
Well!
Washington Township Fire Dept. Keeps It Cool on Hot 4th of July Festivities
This year's Delaware Trails July 4th Picnic (click here to scroll to photos) featured the usual assortment of merriment and fine food by Jug's, as well as a new attraction for the kids. In addition to the bike parade led by the Washington Township Fire Department, the bounce house and face painting by Beth Falkenbach, Nutmeg the Clown entertained the young ones with stories, tricks and balloon sculptures.
Dozens of neighborhood kids, their bikes (and a few faces) decorated in patriotic Red, White and Blue, followed a brand new fire engine around the streets of Delaware Trails to officially, and loudly, launch the party.
When the parade ended back at the Munsee circle, our friendly firefighters decided it was time to cool things off, so they demonstrated the power and capacity of their hoses by drenching those in the crowd who were either too slow to get out of the way or young enough not to care. Wet or dry, everyone enjoyed the demonstration.
This year's picnic was organized by board member Jill Litherland, with lot's of help from her committee and her daughter (and DT resident) Brooke Richardson.
The most noticeable difference from last year's event was the welcome addition of a tent with tables and chairs that provided lot's of comfortable shade in which to enjoy the feast, which was greatly enhanced by the addition of many delectable homemade salads and desserts.
Based on the wide smiles on everyone's face throughout the afternoon, it is easy to see why this annual event has become a DTCA tradition that's worth the effort.

And Thank you, Emily for being so cute in your Red, White & Blue outfit and for letting your mom and dad - Anne Marie and George - host our annual event again, along with picnic-coordinating board member Jill.
Almost everyone was in a Red, White & Blue mood on this splendid holiday.
