DTCA to Sponsor Raffle for Fireman

Beginning at our DTCA Goes to the Movies event on Feb. 11th and continuing until our 4th of July party, DTCA will be selling raffle tickets. For $5 you can buy a chance to win a tree to be planted anywhere you wish. The tree will be a 5-7’ Blue Spruce and the proceeds from the raffle will go to the Jim Smeehuyzen Fund at the Firefighters Credit Union.

Captain Jim Smeehuyzen, the Public Education/Public Information Officer of the Washington Township Fire Department, is well-know among the children in our neighborhood, teaching fire safety classes at local schools. “Fireman Jim” attended many of our 4th of July parties too. Last year Jim was diagnosed with an incurable form of brain cancer. The monies from the Jim Smeehuyzen Fund will be used to promote fire safety education and safety awareness programs.
