the neighborhood, visiting with neighbors and helping yourself to some
tasty treats. We will have Dilly Bar ice-cream and cookies as well as
glow in the dark necklaces for the first 100 takers. The sheriff's
department will be paying us a visit as well and sharing information. See
you there!.
Remember, keep your exterior lights on each and every night.

DTCA "Fireman Jim" Raffle Kicks Into High Gear
The Delaware Trails Civic
Association is pleased to announce its sponsorship of a fundraiser for Fireman Jim.
For just $5.00, you can purchase a raffle ticket giving you a chance to win a beautiful 5-7’ Blue Spruce graciously donated by McNamara’s Garden Center, 7002 North Michigan Road. The winner can plant the tree anywhere they wish.
Captain Jim Smeehuyzen, the Public Education/Public Information Officer of the Washington Township Fire Department, is well known among children in our community due to his teaching of fire safety classes at local schools. Jim has been present at many of DTCA’s July 4th parties also.
Last year Fireman Jim was diagnosed with an incurable form of brain cancer and continues to face the fight of his life.
All profits from the fundraiser will go to the Jim Smeehuyzen Fund at the Greater Indianapolis Firefighters Credit Union and are used to promote fire safety education and safety awareness programs.
Tickets can be purchased at a number of Delaware Trails Civic Association events including:
- DTCA Goes to the Movies at the Cinema Grill – 2:00pm, February 9th (Too late now, but we're off to a good start!)
- General Membership Meeting - Jewish Community Center – 7:00pm, March 11th
- Select addresses during the DTCA all-neighborhood Garage Sale – May 2nd & 3rd
- DTCA Plant Exchange Day - 6930 Munsee Lane – May 17th
- July 4th Neighborhood Party
- Feisty 50+ Friends get-togethers (see newsletters or website for dates & times)
The final chance to participate is when the fundraiser ends with a drawing of the lucky ticket on Saturday, September 20th at DTCA’s Fall Pitch-in at the Jewish Community Center Pavilion. (Posted Feb. 15, 2003)
